01 Branding
Creating a friendly and approachable brand identity
We developed the new tagline “Security for Humans,” which informed all our efforts. Our goal was to create a brand that was friendly, approachable, and aligned with people’s desire for worry-free protection from cybercriminals. This contrasted with industry norms that focused on complex jargon and technical features. We positioned Total Defense as a company offering easy-to-use protection without intimidation.
02 Product Strategy
Simplifying products around users’ lifestyle needs
We led product strategy to ease buyer fatigue by simplifying Total Defense’s products based on users’ lifestyle needs. We created a tiered product hierarchy with logical naming conventions. Core messaging focused on real-life use cases and benefits, pairing consumers with appropriate products. For savvy shoppers, features were clearly presented to facilitate comparison shopping. The brand’s voice inspired confidence without being intimidating.
03 Retail Experience
Designing inviting and modern packaging
To support the new subscription model, we transformed product packaging from physical boxes to sleek gatefold “wallet” designs. Upon opening, consumers were greeted with clear quick-start guides and installation instructions. At the retail level, we infused the brand with color-coded product displays that were clean, modern, and inviting, enhancing customer experience and brand affinity.
04 Customer Journey
Personalizing the sales funnel through intuitive design
We built an intuitive user experience around persona-defined user flows tailored to users’ needs. Our research identified three core moments when people seek internet security: product renewal, new device purchase, or malware infection. We implemented conversational forms, at-a-glance product scrolls, simple comparison tools, and smart pop-ups to streamline the user experience and personalize the sales funnel.
05 Website
Developing a human-friendly, responsive platform
We created a new responsive website at the heart of the brand and subscription model. Loaded with micro-interactions, the site facilitated the customer journey and inspired action. Simplified navigation and clean visual design delivered a conversational brand story, making it easier for users to research, learn, and buy on any device, anytime.
06 Ecommerce
Redefining the online shopping experience
We redefined the online shopping experience with inviting product pages designed to inspire immediate action. Users were persuaded with easy-to-understand features, organized system requirements for advanced shoppers, and product ratings, reviews, and testimonials. An elegant shopping cart facilitated upselling and cross-selling, while a condensed form ensured a speedy checkout. After purchase, customers could share on social media that a portion of their purchase was donated to help rescue missing and exploited children.
